Got a question about Savings Booster?

Chances are, you'll find the answer in our FAQs. Here are some of the more common questions we get asked:

What is the ING Savings Booster and what interest rate will I earn?

The ING Savings Booster is a variable interest savings account which lets you earn up to % p.a. variable for the first 4 months on balances up to $500,000, if you're new to ING savings and meet the monthly Boost rate criteria.

You can earn up to % p.a. variable interest on balances up to $500,000 for the first 4 months (if eligible). This is made up of:

  • a % p.a. variable Welcome rate (available for new to ING savings customers only),
  • a % p.a. variable Boost rate when you grow your balance by $100 or more each month (excluding interest), and
  • a % p.a. ongoing variable Base rate.

If you are not eligible for the Welcome rate, you can earn up to % p.a. variable interest on balances up to $500,000. This includes:

  • the % p.a. variable Boost rate when you grow your balance by $100 or more each month (excluding interest), and
  • the % p.a. ongoing variable Base rate

The % p.a. ongoing variable Base rate applies to balances above $500,000 and up to $2 million. No interest is paid on any portion of your balance above $2 million.

You are eligible to open a Savings Booster account if you:

  • are at least 18 years old,
  • an Australian resident for tax purposes,
  • have a valid Australian phone number and residential address,
  • hold or open an active Orange Everyday account in the same name,
  • are able to submit your application online for yourself,
  • don't already hold a Savings Booster in the same name
  • are using the account for personal use.

To qualify for the Savings Booster Boost rate, your balance by the last day of the month must be at least $100 higher than your balance at the end of the previous month (excluding any interest earned).

To qualify for the Savings Booster Welcome rate, you and any joint account holder must not have previously held a personal savings account with ING. The Welcome rate applies for the first 4 months from account opening on balances up to $500,000 and is paid on top of the Base rate and, if eligible, the Boost rate.

You can withdraw money from your Savings Booster anytime by transferring funds to your:

  • Orange Everyday
  • Savings Maximiser, Savings Accelerator, Mortgage Simplifier or Orange Advantage that's linked to an Orange Everyday, or
  • another Savings Booster.

You can use your Orange Everyday to withdraw cash, make payments or transfer funds to an external bank account.

To qualify for the Boost rate, your eligibility will be assessed at 11:59 PM Sydney time on the last calendar day of the month.

Boost interest is calculated daily based on your account balance and paid monthly into your Savings Booster account on the first day of the following month when the Boost eligibility criteria is met.

No. Interest does not count towards the $100 increase required to meet the monthly Boost rate criteria.

For example, if your balance is $10,000 at month end and you earn $25 in interest, taking your total to $10,025, the following month you would need to grow your total balance to $10,125 ($10,000 + $25 + $100) to qualify.

If you don't meet the monthly Boost rate criteria, you won't earn the % p.a. variable Boost rate for that month. The % p.a. ongoing variable Base rate will still apply to balances up to $2 million, and, if you're eligible, the % p.a. Welcome rate will still apply to balances up to $500,000.

You can qualify for the Boost rate again in a future month by increasing your balance by at least $100 by the last day of that month compared to your balance at the end of the previous month (excluding any interest earned).
