ING in the community
At ING Australia we value and appreciate our people, our customers, the environment and the society we live and operate in. We are committed to acting ethically to meet our social and environmental responsibilities.
We are actively involved in the community through charitable programs and sponsorships, supporting a range of Australian charities through the ING Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1978 and manages an ongoing program of grants to charitable causes and cultural institutions. All employees are encouraged to donate their time and skills through fundraising and volunteering programs with our charity partners.
By combining our resources with the wider community we can truly make a difference to the lives of others.
In 2007 our partnership with one of our charity partners, The Spastic Centre, resulted in ING winning the 2007 Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships. This award recognised the longevity of our relationship with The Spastic Centre, the numerous events and fundraising activities organised and the depth of engagement from staff.
To find out more about ING in the Community and guidelines for charity grant applications go to the ING Foundation web site.
Through sponsorships, ING Australia has built long-term strategic partnerships with various organisations and the broader community. ING Australia is involved in a number of sponsorships, including sport and conservation programs. Our sponsorship program is selective and is directly linked to our business and marketing objectives.

Taronga Zoo
In 2001 ING became the primary sponsor of the lion exhibit at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo. By taking up this sponsorship, we became a major contributor to the zoo’s breeding and conservation program for African lions. Our support helps the management of the lions at the zoo and provides funding for exhibit upgrades, behaviour enrichment toys and veterinary health products.
During the time of our sponsorship there have been many developments with the lions, including the arrival of Kuchani the lioness at the zoo, the subsequent courtship with Jambo the male lion and finally the birth of the two lion cubs Asali and Johari in 2003.
