ING Offering Young Australians a unique Global Rotation Program
ING Australia has announced that in 2008 they will offer Australians the opportunity to apply for their international Young Talent Program.
Brendan Keys, Executive Director People & Performance at ING Australia believes that ING is the only company based in Australia that guarantees people the opportunity to work in up to four countries as part of an internal rotation program.
“ING globally wants to continue to attract the best and brightest young people and to do so we need to offer them something different. This year is the first time high potential Australians have been invited to join the Young Talent Program and I believe it represents a unique opportunity in our market place to work across several countries during an accelerated learning program.
“The opportunity to work across not only different roles in an internal rotation program but also in different countries offers people an enhanced learning experience, learning not only the technical side of different roles but also how to operate across different cultures and the various sensitivities required to do so,” Mr Keys said.
Harpreet Marwah is undertaking her second rotation as part of ING’s General Management Program. Harpreet is currently based in ING Australia’s Sydney office and was previously based in Hong Kong. Harpreet, who has completed an MBA in India and previously worked in software and electronics companies in India, is excited to be part of ING’s global Young Talent Program.
“When I was first selected I joined 175 other young people from around the world in the Netherlands for a three week training program. The experience was incredible not only for the international mix of people on the program, but also for the exposure to senior ING management. Often we’d even have one-on-one meetings with ING board members, which is a huge deal so early on in our careers.
“I first learnt of the ING Young Talent Program from people from my college in India, as many of the high performers had previously been through the program and it’s very highly regarded. In fact an alumnus of my college who was selected for the program a few years ago is now the CEO of ING Thailand.
“The recruitment process was quite tough. The Hong Kong regional team came to my college and initially 60 people were short listed based on our MBA results. We then did a written assessment followed by a series of interviews with members of ING’s Hong Kong office, which while exhausting gave me a very good idea of the culture of ING, which was exactly what I was looking for” said Ms Marwah.
Every year ING chooses the brightest young people from around the world to undertake either a three year placement for the general management program or two years for the functional management program. To be eligible for the program generally requires a masters degree and 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
